The Radhuni Story

Everyone Eats Well Here

We take dietary requirements and food allergies seriously — because a great meal should be accessible to everyone, not just those without restrictions.

How We Handle Dietary Requirements at The Radhuni

At The Radhuni, we don’t treat dietary requirements as an inconvenience. We treat them as part of looking after our guests properly. Whether you have a diagnosed allergy, a food intolerance, or a personal choice to avoid certain ingredients, we want to know — and we want to accommodate you as well as we possibly can.

The most important thing you can do is tell us when you book or order. That gives our kitchen time to prepare your meal with full awareness and take the necessary steps to avoid cross-contamination or unwanted ingredients. Don’t feel awkward about it — our staff are used to these conversations and will handle your requirements with care.

Gluten-Free Indian Food Near Edinburgh

Indian cooking is naturally more accommodating for gluten-free diners than many other cuisines. Rice dishes, lentil-based curries, and most of our main course sauces are made without wheat flour or gluten-containing ingredients.

The main things to be mindful of in Indian restaurants are bread (naan, chapati, and paratha all contain wheat) and some sauces that use flour as a thickener. At The Radhuni, we can identify which dishes are naturally gluten-free and which can be adapted. We ask that you tell us about your gluten intolerance or coeliac condition when you book, so our kitchen can take appropriate precautions.

Naturally gluten-free options include:

Rice dishes (pilau, boiled, plain), most of our curry sauces, dal-based dishes, and many of our main courses. Ask our staff for the current list when you visit.

Dairy-Free Options

Several of our dishes are naturally dairy-free, and others can be adapted. The key dairy-containing ingredients in Indian cooking to be aware of are ghee (clarified butter), paneer (Indian cheese), yoghurt (used in marinades and some sauces), and butter in bread.

Our dal tadka, chana masala, aloo gobi, and most of our meat curries can be prepared without dairy on request. Just let us know and we’ll prepare your meal accordingly.

If you’re vegan as well as dairy-free, please also see our vegetarian and vegan menu page →

Nut Allergies

We do use nuts in some of our dishes — almonds and cashews appear in certain sauces and garnishes. If you have a nut allergy, please make sure you inform us when you book and again when you arrive. We will do everything we can to ensure your meal is prepared safely.

We must be transparent: our kitchen does handle nuts, so we cannot guarantee a completely nut-free environment. However, we take every precaution possible and our team is trained to handle allergy requests with appropriate care.

Other Dietary Needs

Vegetarian and Vegan:

We have an extensive vegetarian and vegan menu. See the full details here →

Halal:

Please contact us directly to discuss our halal options and ingredient sourcing. We’re happy to give you a clear, honest answer.

Low Spice / Mild:

Not everyone wants their food fiery — and that’s completely fine. All of our dishes can be prepared at your preferred heat level. Just let your server know and our kitchen will adjust accordingly. Mild Indian food is still deeply flavoured — spice level and flavour are not the same thing.

Diabetic-Friendly:

Many of our dishes are suitable for diabetic diners — rice-based, lentil-based, and dry vegetable dishes in particular. We’re happy to discuss options with you and help you choose dishes that suit your needs.

Allergy & Dietary Questions

We can accommodate gluten-free diners and have a range of dishes that are naturally free of gluten. Please tell us when you book so our kitchen can prepare your food with the appropriate care. We cannot guarantee a completely gluten-free kitchen environment, but we take every precaution to minimise risk.

Yes — several of our dishes are naturally dairy-free and others can be adapted on request. Key dishes to avoid if you’re dairy-free are paneer dishes, dishes cooked in ghee, and naan bread. Our dal and chickpea dishes, most meat curries, and rice are generally dairy-free. Please let us know and we’ll guide you through the menu.

We do use nuts in some dishes, and our kitchen handles nuts as part of normal service. If you have a nut allergy, please inform us when you book and again when you arrive. We take every precaution possible but cannot guarantee a completely nut-free environment.

Absolutely — all of our dishes can be adjusted for heat level on request. Just tell your server how mild you’d like it and our kitchen will adjust the spicing accordingly. A mild curry at The Radhuni is still a deeply flavoured, satisfying dish — we just remove the heat, not the character.

The best time to tell us is when you book your table — that gives our kitchen the best chance to prepare for you. You should also mention it again when you arrive and order, just to make sure everything is fresh in the team’s mind. Don’t hesitate — we’d much rather know than not.

Have a Question About Your Dietary Needs?

Give us a call before you book and we’ll talk you through the options. We’d rather spend five minutes on the phone than have you arrive and feel uncertain.
