The Radhuni Story

Plant-Based Indian Food

Indian cuisine has one of the richest vegetarian traditions in the world. At The Radhuni, we take full advantage of that.

Why The Radhuni Is a Great Choice for Vegetarians Near Edinburgh

Indian cooking and vegetarian eating are a natural fit. Long before plant-based diets became fashionable in the West, Indian cuisine had developed hundreds of meat-free dishes built around lentils, chickpeas, fresh vegetables, paneer, and an extraordinary range of spices. At The Radhuni, we bring that tradition to Loanhead — and we do it properly.

Our vegetarian dishes aren’t an afterthought or a token section at the bottom of the menu. They’re made with the same care, the same fresh spices, and the same from-scratch cooking that defines everything we do. Whether you’re fully vegetarian, vegan, or just looking to eat less meat, you’ll find plenty to love here.

Our Vegetarian Menu

Dal Tadka

A classic of Indian home cooking — yellow lentils slow-cooked with garlic, cumin, and a tempering of mustard seeds and dried chilli. Warming, satisfying, and deeply flavoured. Served with rice or naan.

Chana Masala

Chickpeas cooked in a rich tomato and onion sauce with whole spices. A dish that’s been made across the Indian subcontinent for generations — and for good reason. Hearty, spiced, and genuinely filling.

Aloo Gobi

Potato and cauliflower cooked dry with turmeric, cumin, and fresh coriander. A simple dish, but a beautifully executed one. Perfect alongside a dal or as a side to a main curry.

Saag Paneer

Indian cottage cheese cooked with spiced spinach. Rich and slightly creamy with an earthy depth from the greens. One of the most popular vegetarian dishes on our menu.

Vegetable Curry

A rotating selection of seasonal vegetables in a spiced curry sauce. Ask our staff what’s on that day — we like to vary it based on what’s fresh and at its best.

Paneer Tikka

Cubes of paneer marinated in yoghurt and spices, cooked in the tandoor. Smoky, slightly charred, and excellent as a starter or light main.

Vegan Dishes at The Radhuni

Many of our vegetarian dishes are also vegan, or can be made vegan on request. The dal tadka, chana masala, aloo gobi, and vegetable curry are all naturally free of dairy. Just let us know when you order and we’ll make sure your food is prepared accordingly.

Our breads contain dairy (butter), but we can serve rice as your accompaniment if you need a fully vegan meal. Plain rice, pilau rice, and boiled rice are all vegan-friendly.

Dining With a Mix of Vegetarians and Meat-Eaters?

We get this a lot — and it’s absolutely no problem. Our menu works very well for mixed groups. Vegetarian diners have plenty of genuine choices, and meat-eaters have equally good options. Everyone eats well, nobody feels like they’re making a compromise.

If you’re booking for a group with mixed dietary requirements, just mention it when you reserve your table and we’ll make sure the meal is well-suited to everyone.

Vegetarian Dining — Your Questions Answered

Yes — we have a dedicated range of vegetarian dishes that are made from scratch with the same care as everything else on our menu. Dal tadka, chana masala, saag paneer, aloo gobi, paneer tikka, and more. Indian cuisine has one of the world’s great vegetarian traditions, and we take it seriously.

Yes. Several of our vegetarian dishes are naturally vegan — including the dal tadka, chana masala, and aloo gobi. Others can be made vegan on request. Just let us know when you book or order and we’ll make sure your meal is prepared without any animal products.

We’d say yes — and so would many of our regulars who come specifically for the vegetarian menu. Indian cooking relies on spice, technique, and fresh ingredients for its flavour, not just meat. The dal tadka and chana masala in particular are dishes we’re very proud of.

Absolutely. Our menu is well suited to mixed groups. There’s no situation where a vegetarian diner is left with one token option while everyone else chooses freely. Everyone eats well. Let us know your group’s requirements when you book and we’ll be prepared.

Yes — we have vegan-friendly options and can adapt dishes on request. We’re one of the better choices for vegan Indian food near Edinburgh, precisely because our cooking is made from scratch rather than relying on dairy-heavy pre-made sauces.
